Why Bodybuilders Hate Turbulence Training

Bodybuilders are not a fan of Turbulence Training. I don't know why, but for some reason getting a workout done in less than 45 minutes really ticks them off.
I remember when I first tried out the Turbulence Training 2K3 workout from my TT for Fat Loss manual. It was in the dark and grungy downstairs weight room of System Fitness in the High Park area of Toronto - maybe you've even been there.
Anyways, that gym is full of bodybuilders. And hey, I have nothing against them, but they always gave me a hard time when I went in there and finished my supersets and entire workout so fast they didn't even have time to finish training their biceps.
Perhaps you know how long and slow those bodybuilder isolation workouts are...well no one has time for those anymore.
But the bodybuilders would sit there with their weight belts on(why did they need a weight belt to do chest exercises?),sweatsuits, clown pants, and bloated bellies and just stare while I went through my workout and they talked for 5 minutes between sets.
But I still had a lot of fun doing the TT 2K3 workouts back then,way back in the winter of 2003. It truly is one of my favoriteworkouts - and it is one of the TT workouts that gets the most positive feedback from TT clients.
You'll get an arm pump just as good as any bodybuilding lunk who spends THREE times as long doing all his isolation exercises. But you'll get the extra benefits of working your abs and boosting your metabolism with the total body exercises in the TT 2K3 program.
So don't believe the bodybuilders when they say you have to train a separate body part each day...because that doesn't work for people who live in the real world and have real commitments but still want to burn body fat and build muscle.

Turbulence Training vs. Body for Life

Recently I was down in sunny Mesa, Arizona at a seminar that featured both Sir Richard Branson and Bill Phillips, the author of the most popular fat loss book ever, "Body for Life" (BFL).
It looked as though Bill hadn't aged a day since his book came out about 10 years ago, so he's doing something right.
Now I get questions all the time asking what's better, "Turbulence Training or Body for Life"?
Well, I'm going to be frank with you, and tell you that Turbulence Training is better, hands down.

Top 5 Fat Loss Tips

Men's Fitness magazine recently asked me for 3 of my best fat loss secrets. Since most times the magazines just don't have enough space to run my full tips, I thought I'd give you a more detailed explanation of my secrets here (plus a few extra bonus tips that I didn't send to the magazine).
Secret #1 - Focus on burning carbohydrate, not fat, during yourfat-loss workouts.
Sounds backwards, right? But not when you look at how I structure my workouts. Remember that Turbulence Training focuses on resistance training and interval training. Both of these use carbohydrate as the main source of energy. So it's obvious the workout is designed to burn carbohydrates during the training session.
I have no interest in you trying to train in your "target heartrate zone" for fat burning (aka - the fat burning zone). The whole idea of a fat-burning zone is an over-simplified idea of how the body works during exercise.
Leave the inefficient fat burning zone to the mis-educatedtrainers in the commercial gyms (that not surprisingly, also want to sell you a heart rate monitor so you can stay in your "fatburning heart rate zone").
If you want to get the most results in the least amount of time,focus on burning carbohydrates, not fat.
Why do my fat loss workouts focus on burning carbohydrate rather than fat? In order to burn more calories after the workout, that's why. When you exercise with intervals and heavy resistance training, your body uses more calories in the hours after exercise than it would if you did traditional cardio and lifted lighter weights.
Alwyn Cosgrove calls this 'afterburn', and I call it 'Turbulence'.By any name it gives you the same results - maximumimprovements in your body composition (helping you lose fat while gaining muscle).
Secret #2 - Use a range of repetitions in your strength trainingworkouts.
In order to train more muscle fibers and burn more carbohydrates, I have clients use a range of repetitions within the same workout. My workouts now use 6, 8, and 12 reps per set in order to work the muscle the most effectively.
This will burn more carbohydrates and promote as much muscle growth as possible when you are keeping the calories low.
Secret #3 - Use the stationary cycle for interval training.
I choose the stationary bike for intervals whenever possiblebecause cycling against a resistance can help maintain muscle mass.
Cycling against a resistance also allows you to perform a largeamount of mechanical work, and that is a key determinant of the Turbulence in my training.
But please note: I don't use low-intensity, fast pedaling'spinning' intervals as I'm convinced that the hard, resistancebased intervals are more effective for fat loss. My clients onlycycle against a strong resistance in their intervals.
I really like the bike, but there are many other ways to dointervals. Use what works for you, but if you are at a plateau, try the bike.
Secret #4 - Increase meal frequency
Okay, so this isn't really a secret to anyone that has read aboutfat loss. But a 2005 study from the American Journal of ClinicalNutrition showed that eating 6 times per day was associated with eating fewer calories per day, lowering cholesterol levels, and lowering post-meal insulin levels.
Combine an increased meal frequency with an increased protein and fiber intake, and you'll see your body composition improve rapidly.

Secret #5 - My Synergistic Turbulence Training Workouts
My Turbulence Training Fat Loss workouts are fast becoming the most effective way to burn fat, build muscle, and get lean. The synergistic strength training-interval training workouts areefficient and effective - getting you in and out of the gym inunder an hour.
Here are some tips that you can use for an advanced training phase
- use these tips for 2 weeks then return to your normal trainingschedule:
a) Add 10 seconds to each interval but maintain the intensity
b) Add in some bodyweight circuits (10-20 minutes per day) done in the morning or evening (if you do your regular workout in the AM, do your bodyweight circuits after dinner; otherwise, do the bw circuits first thing in the AM, and then do your regular workout at lunch or later in the afternoon or evening)
If you are advanced, you can use squats, pushups, and bodyweight rows for your circuit.
If you are a beginner, you could use lying hip extensions, modified pushups, and stick-ups.
c) Add an extra set to each exercise in the first superset you doin each workout.
Again, use these three tips for an advanced fat loss period of twoweeks, then return to a normal training schedule.

5 More Fat Burning Tips for You

At this time of year, we can use every last tip to help avoid holiday weight gain.
So here are 5 more fat loss tips for beginner & advanced readers.
1) No liquid calories (with the exception of a post-workout drink).
Get rid of all the juices, the sodas, and the sports drinks. Liquid sugar is the last thing you need when you are trying to lose fat.
You must also limit your alcohol intake - especially if you areadding mix to drinks...that is a double calorie bomb! A single "Jackand Coke" is over 200 calories (100 calories from booze and 100 calories from mix).
2) No fast food.
Do not eat at fast food restaurants. Even if you choose what you think is healthy, remember this:
Fast food restaurants are all about profit.
And in order to profit while giving you cheap, quick, and easy toprepare foods, the quality of the food ingredients will be poor -especially the protein.
Now you might have read that you can still make healthy choices at fast food restaurants. But you know what, that's justpolitically-correct opinion. If it's fast food, it's poor food.
Walking into a burger joint and grabbing a chicken breast on awhite bread bun with a piece of old lettuce and a half-green,half-pink tomato is "barely" healthy eating.
The politically-incorrect truth is that it's going to take time andeffort to eat properly. You will have to plan, shop, and preparehealthy meals. You will have to spend time cleaning, cutting, andcooking your food. That's the truth.
But believe me, it will taste so much better than fast food, andhealthy eating will make you more alert. Eating fast food will make you feel terrible, and will make you want to have an afternoon nap at your desk.
Make one small improvement to your nutrition everyday for the rest of your life.
3) Eat more fruits and vegetables.
If you are eating 2 servings per day, then go up to 4 servings per day by the end of the week. And even if you think you are doing great by having 5 servings per day, you still need to double that (take 2-3 weeks to work your way up to 10 servings per day).
Stick with fiber-rich fruits and vegetables - organic if possible.
4) Eat 1oz of almonds or walnuts per day (1/2 oz in the AM, and the other half in the afternoon).
Most nuts are roasted in oils (possible source of trans fats), so stick to natural or dry-roasted nuts.
Don't panic...this small amount of nuts won't make you fat, but will fill you up and help you lose weight.
5) Be consistent with your workouts.
And make sure the workouts are efficient and effective. To make it easy for you to follow, stick with the Turbulence Training fat burning workout system.
It doesn't matter if you train in the morning before or afterbreakfast, or at night before or after dinner, or at 1pm on dayswhen the moon is in line with Saturn...don't worry about thedetails, just train consistently.

Politically Incorrect Holiday Fat Loss Tips

I was at a big event last week and was reminded howimportant it is to have strategies for this season of high-calorieparties and busy schedules. But I get ticked off by the tired oldsuggestions you find on the Internet or in magazines like Woman's World.
Often the suggestions are lack any substance, because the writers don't want to imply you actually have to make a sacrifice to succeed. They make fat loss sound easy, as if all you had to do was park at the far end of the parking lot and you'd burn all the calories from 5 shortbread cookies.
Well it doesn't work that way...So here are my politicallyincorrect, unique Turbulence Training strategies to help you keep off the holiday pounds.

Strategy #1 - Green Tea & Almonds
One of the most common tips you'll hear is to "fill up" before you go to a party where there will be lots of goodies.
Unfortunately, most people I talk to have no luck with this tip. Most people still go to a party and eat everything in sight.
But recently TT users have told me that having a cup of Green Tea and one ounce of almonds has helped them avoid holiday cravings better than anything ever before.
The fiber from the almonds reduces appetite while the small amount of caffeine from the Green Tea seems to increase mental alertness and keep you "energized" at the party.
Hopefully that might work for you...
Strategy #2 - Don't waste your time on any fancy cardio programs
Listen, the bottom line over the holiday season is that your success depends almost entirely on your nutrition.
You can't expect to hit the cardio confessional and burn off last night's 2000 calorie smorgasboard. That's a 4-hour workout. Instead, don't get into that situation in the first place.
Here are more nutrition tips:
- Focus on portion control (and if you have no discipline, forgeteven trying to eat just one)- Nix all drinks mixed with calorie-containing beverages, or better yet, just stop getting drunk. Period.- Write down everything you eat to identify your problem spots. Then do whatever you need to do to eliminate your weaknesses. If you don't record your nutrition, chances are you'll miss bigopportunities to change your diet and lose fat.
Strategy #3 - Take care of yourself first.
My friend Holly Rigsby (of http://www.fityummymummy.com) is always reminding busy moms to take care of themselves first, and I think that suggestion applies at this time of year to everyone.
So take a deep breath. Ask yourself as you're running around to please everyone else, "Have you set aside time for yourself"
Be selfish. Make sure you have had some exercise time, some good nutrition, and some rest before overextending yourself and doing too much for other people when you haven't taken care of yourself and your goals first.
Strategy #4 - Get on a roll
This one comes from a TT Transformation contestant who is too busy losing fat to get off track over the holidays.
Don't procrastinate till January 1st. Get started now. Dozens ofmen and women are doing their Turbulence Training Transformations right now - through the heart of the holiday season.

5 Easy Exercises To Burn Fat

Are you searching for some quick, easy exercises to burn fat? If so you've come to the right place because here I will be running through 5 simple exercises that will help you burn fat quickly and efficiently.
If you are just starting out with fitness routines then the information here is great first step. Combine these exercises with healthy eating habits, such as can be found with the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program that you can find reviewed at my website below. You will lose even more weight without having to workout for hours each day.
So long as you stay committed to your weight-loss goals achieving them and exceeding them is not only possible, it's virtually guaranteed. Just losing 10-15% of your body weight decreases your chances of heart attack and lowers cholesterol.
The following easy exercises to burn fat are so simple they can be done by a complete beginner, they can be modified as you improve and incorporated into any regular activity you are currently involved in. They are also ideal to be used at home. For a more advanced routine I thoroughly recommend the Turbulence Training regime which I talk about on my website below.
So here we go, some easy exercises to burn fat;
1) Squats.
* Place your feet shoulder width apart.
* Keep your torso vertical and slightly arch your lower back, begin the movement by bending the knees.
* Go only as far down as you feel comfortable. Move slowly down maintaining a smooth movement.
* Using your legs, push yourself back up to the start position still maintaining smooth movement. You can use a bar or chair for balance if you find it more comfortable.
* Once you get stronger and more confident try to maintain balance yourself without holding anything.
* Should you want to make the exercise harder you can use weight. Two milk containers or similar can be used. Hold them at your side and squat but make sure both sides are of even weight.
* I suggest completing 3 sets of between 8-12 reps. As you improve you can increase the reps.
2) Wall Push-ups.
* Stand facing a wall with your feet 1 to 2 feet back from it.
* Place your hands on the wall slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
* Bend only at the elbows and lower yourself forward towards the wall then push yourself away from it.
* Keep your body stiff and straight during the movement and make sure to move slowly and smoothly.
* I suggest completing 3 sets of between 8-12 reps. As you improve you can increase the reps.
3) Bench Dips.
* These can be done on the edge of any bench or chair.
* Sit on the side edge of the bench or chair and place your hands on the edge of it beside your bottom, grip the edge.
* Place your feet flat on the floor approximately two feet in front of you with your knees bent.
* Move yourself off the bench so you're supporting yourself on your hands.
* Bend your arms, dipping your body down. Make sure to only go down as far as you feel comfortable.
* Push back up maintaining smooth motion.
* To minimize shoulder stress keep your back close to the bench.
* When finished with the set push yourself back onto the bench. As you improve you can gradually move your feet further from the bench, so eventually they are straight.
* I suggest completing 3 sets of between 8-12 reps. As you improve you can increase the reps.
4) Bicycle Crunch.
* Lie flat on the floor with your lower back pressed to the ground.
* Put your hands beside your head but take care not to place them behind the head as this can cause pulling and stress the neck.
* Bring your knees up to roughly a 45-degree angle and slowly and smoothly go through a bicycle pedal motion.
* Touch your left elbow to your right knee, then your right elbow to your left knee etc.
* Breath evenly throughout the exercise.
* I suggest completing 3 sets of between 10-12 reps. As you improve you can increase the reps.
5) Interval Training.
* Start out either walking or jogging so that you are working at approximately a 3/10 intensity level.
* Continue this for 3 minutes to warm up.
* After the 3 minutes is up briskly walk, jog or run depending on your fitness level so that you are working at approximately a 7/10 intensity level.
* Continue this for 1 minute then follow it by working at a 3/10 intensity level for 2 minutes.
* Repeat this sequence three more times.
* Finally warm down at a 3/10 intensity level for 3 minutes.
These 5 easy exercises to burn fat, if you do them properly, will get your heart rate into your targeted range and will increase your metabolism burning fat. Try to exercise at least three to four times a week for 30 minutes to 1 hour. If you commit to several weeks of regular exercise I promise you will notice good results. Try to spread your workouts over the week and aim for a minimum of 3 days exercise - but make sure you have a few days off also - rest is also extremely important for fat-loss as well as maintaining energy levels.

Want To Lose 15 Pounds Fast? 5 Easy Tips Here.

We are all looking for fast efficient weight-loss but which way is the right way? To lose 15 pounds fast takes not only will-power but also the correct kind of advice. This article aims to give you that correct advice and point you in the direction of the best programs and routines to keep the fat off, permanently.
Most diets available today claim to allow the dieter to shed pounds ridiculously quickly - who wouldn't want to lose 15 pounds fast?! - it is great marketing!. The truth is that although many of these diets do create an initial fast loss of weight, this rarely lasts and is more often than not due to water loss and muscle wastage. This type of dieting is extremely unhealthy and leads to dehydration and lowers ones energy and concentration levels. There are more effective ways to lose 15 pounds fast which can help you keep the weight off.
Other low calorie diets which are touted can work but it is important to realise that severe calorie restriction for too long leads to the body's metabolism slowing down significantly and heading towards its 'body starvation mode'. Once your body hits this starvation mode it will burn far less calories in a bid to stay alive!
The body will respond when entering body starvation mode by using its own reserves to provide energy, these reserves are not just the body's extra fat. Initially, glycogen stores (the storage form of carbohydrate in our body) are broken down for energy. Once this energy source is depleted within a few hours water is released and consequently a drop in weight is noticed.
These kind of diets have a number of key problems, but the one that is most critical to individuals wanting to get in shape is the resultant weight gain. Once the starvation diet is finished with individuals return to their old bad habits - eliminating these is the key to losing pounds and keeping them off.
The weight that is regained following a diet such as this is purely fat which replaces muscle mass lost during dieting. The individuals metablolic rate decreases and so the weight comes straight back. The frustration of this is seen when the individual, in desparation goes back onto similar starvation diet and the cycle continues. Many of us know people who seem to be constantly dieting to lose those 15 pounds fast - keeping the pounds off however is another matter.
If you are one of those people that constantly seem to be dieting you will find that making the following small changes to your lifestyle will greatly improve your long-term weight loss goals;
1. Eat 4-6 small meals per day, balancing your intake of nutrients. This helps increase metabolism as your body is constantly working to process the food.
2. Start exercising - it may seem obvious but it is amazing how many people simply diet without any exercise. This helps your body increase its metabolic rate still further and will speed your weight-loss results.
3. 10 ways your Mind goes against your Weight Loss

1. You haven't planned your weight loss out and your mind still thinks like it used to think - planning is a huge part when it comes to being successful on a diet. You can not just buy a diet book and expect to have a great start the next day. You might be able to do some adjustments the next day that will let you loose some weight but to have a long term weight loss you need to plan carefully and have it mapped out in your mind and on paper.
2. You crave unhealthy foods and can't stop thinking about them - It will seem like you can not even focus for five minutes on your work or whatever you try to do. All you can think of is where the next candy, chocolate or bakery is. This is very common for the beginnings of a diet and has to do with the less sugar you are taking in. Your body can get addicted to sugar to a degree. Just remember that you don't really need it and those thoughts are going to go away.
3. You think it is too hard - for weight loss you sometimes need to push yourself beyond your regular comfort zone. Remember, it was that comfort zone that got you all the weight in the first place. Be realistic about it being too hard. Ask a thin person for advice if they think you are overloading yourself with stuff. I would say, be careful to trust your judgment on this.
4. You used to connect food with something else and now you think you are deprived in life - This applies when you always eat while watching your favorite shows on TV or you usually eat a lot when hanging out with your friends. It will drive you insane if you tried to still do those activities without eating. They won't be any fun anymore. Try to find a substitute for the food. Try some low calorie beverages for a change. Or make yourself a vegetable plate or salad instead of the high calorie foods you used to eat.
5. You think to diet is to be thin and conclude being thin doesn't feel good - this is a big mistake. Don't do it. Being thin feels great and in the end you will say that it was all worth it. Don't give in to the not-feeling-good thoughts. Remind yourself one more time that dieting is not always fun and feeling good. People don't like to change by nature and that is exactly what you are doing. Be proud of yourself when you are not feeling good.
6. You think you've been at this weight for so long, you can't get down from it on your own - that is completely wrong thinking. People don't go on a diet because someone else makes them. People find something that motivates them to loose weight and then they try to hold on to it as much as they can. Don't find someone else to get you to diet when you have been at a weight for a longer time. Go and find that one thing that motivates you more than anything else and use it as motivation for weight loss.
7. You try to do too much at first and then tell yourself that you are a failure for not getting it all perfect at once - weight loss is a patience game. Sometimes it will take time to find out what works for you. Some people do really well on low carbohydrates, others just need to exercise more to get their metabolism going again. Tell yourself that you are in this for the long run and that you are not going to quit. You have to quit to be a failure. Take it one step at a time, just never quit.
8. You still believe that there is nutritional value in chips and candy - it sounds so obvious! Chips and candy are processed so much that there is really nothing good left in them. Now some candy companies add vitamins to their products but seriously, a daily vitamin would be of more value to you. Next time you are hungry and your body tells you it needs nutrition give it something good and no junk.
9. You tell yourself and others that you don't like to exercise - this is a mindset problem. It is a problem since the way you see yourself will have an effect on who you are. Believe me, active people that like to exercise don't have that much trouble with their weight. So pick up a little of their mentality and tell yourself and others that you like to be active and exercise. You do want to look more like them, don't you?
10. When someone asks for your favorite food you are not naming a healthy one - This is another mindset problem like the one of not wanting to exercise. All healthy food is not that bad. Think of your favorite salad, a fruit you really favor or a way to prepare chicken. Just say that instead of pizza or pasta. It will change your mind and will help you become different.

How To Easily Lose Weight Fast? Lazy But Proven Ways That Works!

Try this, it works for me and I am sure it will work for you.
1. Drink a lot of water
Water is critical in whatever physiological processes our body does. These include digestion, waste removal and even vitamin absorption. In order not to disrupt such important processes, we must drink enough water.
Aim to drink at least a gallon of water a day. Make water easily accessible will help you to achieve this goal. Place a bottle in your car, in your room, in your office, and even in your briefcase (just make sure the cap is tight).
Drinking water also helps you to cut down on snack as your stomach will feel full. You can try this prior to your meal time by drinking a big glass of cold water. You will feel full and will eat less.
2. Eat more but smaller meals
You may want to eat 5 to 6 meals a day instead of the 3 large meals. By eating more meals but smaller portions will keep your metabolism burning efficiently and faster respectively.
Do not skip meals as this will slow down metabolism rate as your body will want to conserve the fat. Your body will not know when you will eat your next meal.
To expedite your weight loss, you may want to have selected choice food like high protein, moderate carbohydrates and low fat diets.
If not, the key action would be to eat moderately. To a lazy person like me, this works for me just fine.
3. Exercise 4 times per week
The best exercise is to have cardiovascular workouts like biking, treadmill or step machine. 30 minutes each time would do the trick. This will burn lots of calories.
For me, as I am too lazy to go to the gym, and hate to exercise because I can't stand the boring routines, I will dance on my PS2 DDR dance pad or even playing my Nintendo WII machine like tennis. As I love the dancing and game, I could play hours at it.
This sure beats sweating in the gym and having fun at the same time. For me, I believe I get better results than if I go to the gym. Contradicting? You see, you will put in more efforts if you like what you are doing.
Instead of exercising, I also choose to do some brisk walking. I keep a pedometer to record the number of steps I made each day. The sense of achievement at the end of the day is most fulfilling.

Dropping the extra pounds and keeping it off would prevent and control these diseases.
By incorporating some simple lifestyle changes, you can achieve a healthy weight loss that would provide long-term and lasting results. You just need to make a commitment to healthy weight loss and set realistic goals.
Here are some tips for healthy weight loss:
1. Don't "Diet."
The key to healthy weight loss is don't "diet." When we think of "diet" we think of starving ourselves and barely eating. Although you may lose weight for the short term by doing this, it won't last long. It's like running a car on an empty gas tank, your body can't tolerate not having enough fuel to run on. It will protect itself by turning to starvation mode and will slow down the burning of calories. That means whatever calories you do take in, it will be stored instead of burned thereby causing weight gain instead of weight loss.
2. Eat Breakfast.
Another key to healthy weight loss is to eat breakfast. Having a healthy meal in the morning helps you jump-start your metabolism. The food you eat after you wake up will be used to burn fat all day long.

You see so many fitness equipment and you ask yourself what must I Use to burn the fat faster.
Every magazine you open up tells you more about new fitness equipment. When you walk into the gym you see so many fitness equipments that you want to walk out.
Most people see these machines and they think it must be the best way to burn the fat faster.
I have see people shock there muscle. I see people target there muscles and I see people try to spot reduce there muscles.
As more and more fitness equipment been make and sell in the fitness industry. The old ways is still the best ways to train. What works in the old days how to burn the fat still works today.
Why ?
The body hasn't change our body can do only certain movements and it is design to do those movements only. Don't get me wrong there is new equipment that is really great but we will come back to it later.

Myth 1

Lets take an example the bicep curl. You lift up the weight and you lower it down that is call the range of motion the weight travels.
Machines limit your range of motion while free weight and bodyweight exercises and other resistance exercises increase your range of motion.
Myth 3
If I'm training with weights or do other resistance I will get bulky.
This is for the ladies mostly and for some men.
Again let me make it clear the way you look is the way you eat and the way you consume things everyday.
Most guy you see or ladies that is so bulky use chemical enhancements to become that big.
The body is paper skin it is impossible to stretch like that with out the chemical enhancements.
Myth 4
I don't want to do resistance training because I just want to tone up and not get bulky.
Well I have news for you when you do resistance training combine with cardio you will get better tone.
